What is something important you learned while you were at Winston and how did it prepare you for high school and beyond?

In preparation for high school and beyond, it was not always easy for me as a student at Winston as I dealt with Dyslexia, so it was hard for me to read and write properly. As such, I would either act out or just give up in school. Winston taught me the important lesson to not give up and to continue to work through my processes in order to achieve success in the classroom. This determination in the face of adversity translated over to my athletic career as well. I attribute my academic success that I experienced later in High School, Undergrad and Grad school to the groundwork that was laid at Winston.

What advice do you have for current students to make the most of their experience at Winston and beyond?
Some advice I have for current students is to trust your teachers at Winston. They’re well educated and determined to see each student's success. I had some teachers that I felt were hard on me then, but looking back I know it was because they cared and wanted me to become the person I am today.

How did you think about yourself as a student/How did you think about school before & after attending Winston?
Before and even at Winston, I was not the best student. I had my fair share of being sent to the head of school’s office. But the faculty and staff were determined to see me persevere and grow. Thanks to their dedication and stubbornness through smaller breakout groups and one-on-one sessions working on spelling and vocabulary, it worked! Before Winston, I hated school and I never wanted to go because I couldn’t read, write, or count as well as other students which made me feel less of myself. Once I got to Winston, I was surrounded by kids like myself, and that is when I realized I wasn’t the only person having these problems. Winston allowed me to gain my academic confidence back with the help of the faculty and my fellow students.
