Welcome to Winston
Since its inception in 1981, The Winston School of Short Hills has been providing an exceptional education to students in grades 1-8. Winston students are bright, creative, and curious; they work hard every day to learn the strategies necessary to overcome challenges that language-based learning differences, including dyslexia, may present. Students are surrounded by a well-trained, compassionate, and nurturing faculty and staff who take great pride in their success.
As students progress from our Primary (grades 1-3) to Lower (grades 4 and 5) to Middle School (grades 6-8) Divisions, classes are Orton-Gillingham-based, multi-sensory, and engaging. Skill development in reading fluency and comprehension, writing, and math provides a vital foundation for academic achievement. Our students develop confidence as they gain increasing independence and knowledge about their learning style while progressing through the divisions.

At each developmental stage, our faculty and staff recognize the importance of appropriate communication skills and self expression, especially as students learn to self-advocate and grow socially and emotionally. Students have ample opportunities for group work and throughout their years at Winston, they hone their presentation and public speaking skills.
