About the Assessment
Upon admission to The Winston School, a learning consultant and specialists will assess students to identify their individual strengths, areas of challenge, and learning profiles.
In addition to standardized assessments that are given throughout the student's years at The Winston School (including NWEA’s Measures of Academic Progress), ongoing benchmark assessments are continuously given and reviewed to monitor the academic progress of each learner. Diagnostic and benchmark assessments inform current instructional needs and help maintain appropriate placements and programming for all students. Additionally, guided reading levels (GRL) are monitored throughout the school year using the Fountas and Pinnell system to inform instruction and monitor student growth.
