Parent Information

Winston builds bridges. Winston strongly encourages parental involvement. The Winston School parents feel that a key benefit to being part of the Winston community is the support provided through various programs.
During the school year, our school psychologist meets with parents once a month to discuss issues ranging from sibling rivalry to summer camp, to empowering youngsters with optimism and confidence. Our Head of School holds a Coffee at Winston monthly to have open-ended discussions with parents about a variety of topics. The conversations and suggestions made by parents have been incorporated into the Winston program. Many years ago, for example, as a direct result of our Coffees at Winston, we first added our after-school activities, a Buddy system for new Winston families, and interim reports.
The founding Board of Trustees of The Winston School envisioned Winston as a resource for the community. In keeping with that mission, The Winston School embarked on a Speaker Series several years ago which invited not only Winston family and friends, but also the general public. Topics of interest to all parents of school-age children are presented. The Annual Winston Speaker Series brings speakers to address our parents and the community-at-large. The topics may be specific to the subject of learning disabilities or may simply be relevant to general parenting issues. We have hosted nationally known psychiatrists, psychologists, and neurologists. The Speaker Series promises to continue to bring more speakers of national stature to our area. The Home Page provides a link to this year’s Speaker Series.
