The History of The Winston School
The Winston School opened its doors in 1981 with a single classroom. The Winston School filled an educational void in the area for a program that addressed learning disabled students. Named after Winston Churchill, who was himself learning disabled, the school has designed and implemented sound basic educational programs to meet the needs of children with learning disabilities. Students receive an individualized program to enhance their skills, while studying a full elementary and middle school curriculum.
The School is a private, non-profit institution run by a Board of 20 trustees. It is a member of the National Association of Independent Schools and the New Jersey Association of Independent Schools. The Winston School was the first special education school in New Jersey to be accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools. The school has been reaccredited by the Middle States.
