Admissions
Winston encourages applicants and their families to begin the admissions process with two goals in mind. First, we begin the process together by exploring whether the Winston program fulfills and matches a child’s needs. Secondly, we initiate the Winston partnership between family and school. The partnership ensures success for youngsters who desire a meaningful and compelling school experience.
Open Houses are scheduled each year to introduce families to The Winston School. Parents will learn about The Winston School and will have the opportunity to tour the school. Parents of potential applicants are then invited to set up an initial interview to meet with the Director of Admissions, a certified L.D.T.C. Prior to that first interview, the Director of Admissions will learn about the applicant, his or her needs, and prior school history. Parents are, therefore, must send the most recent psycho-educational evaluation and other testing and school records prior to this initial meeting.
Following this initial meeting, if the Director of Admissions assesses whether the student is a potential match for the program. An application will then be given to the family. All applications should be filled out completely and submitted to The Winston School along with the application fee.
A second interview is then scheduled with the applicant, his or her family, and the Director of Admissions. During this second visit, the Director of Admissions will briefly test the applicant. When possible, a Winston student will meet with the applicant to provide information about student life at Winston. The student and family will briefly meet with the Head of School.
The most recent psycho-educational evaluation is required and must be submitted before any final admission decision is made. Subsequently, the members of the Admissions Committee will review each completed applicant’s file. This committee consists of the Head of School, the Director of Admissions, and the school psychologist. The applicant and family will be notified about the decision as soon as possible with a telephone call from the Head of School, in addition to a formal letter.
The Winston School does not discriminate in admissions, in administration of its educational policies, in administration of financial aid or athletic and other school administered programs on the basis of gender, race, color, creed national or ethnic origin.
